Fox News has parted ways with Raj Shah, according to CNN.
Shah was the brand protection executive for the Fox Corporation. Before joining Fox, Shah was a senior communications official in the administration of President Donald Trump.
Brian Nick, a spokesperson for Fox, provided a statement to CNN regarding Shah's departure.
"Raj brought talent and creativity to his role at Fox,” Nick said. “We appreciate his service and wish him the best on his next endeavor."
According to CNN, Shah actually left Fox back in May. But, specifics about the situation - including why exactly it is that Fox has parted ways with Shah - have not been provided.
CNN, in its report, suggests that Shah's departure might have something to do with the defamation lawsuit that Dominion Voting Systems' brought against Fox. In April, Fox settled the lawsuit for nearly $800 million.
The Hill reports that several messages from Shah were included in the defamation lawsuit.
Per the outlet:
After the election had been called for then-candidate Joe Biden, Shah’s “Brand Protection Unit Roundup” on Nov. 13, 2020, sent to Fox Corp. Executive Chairman and CEO Lachlan Murdoch, among others, reflected “strong conservative and viewer backlash to Fox that we are working to track and mitigate,” according to court documents from the Dominion lawsuit.
The Hill adds:
A separate court filing from the case states Shah led the Fox team that told network leadership that Fox News host Neil Cavuto’s actions represented a “brand threat” to the network, after Cavuto cut away from a White House press briefing also in November 2020.
Shah is not the only departure that we have seen from Fox in recent months. The most notable departure of all is that of Tucker Carlson, the extremely popular former host of Tucker Carlson Tonight.
As with Shah's departure, it is not known for sure why Fox parted ways with Carlson and there has been speculation that it has to do with the Dominion lawsuit. But, this has not been confirmed.
Since his departure, Carlson has taken his show to Twitter. In response, Fox is considering bringing legal action against Carlson since his contract with Fox reportedly remains in effect until January 2025. Carlson is said to be trying to negotiate an agreement with Fox.
It remains to be seen how this situation will play out.
It also remains to be seen how Fox is going to fare in the ratings considering the noticeable anti-Trump position that it is headed in. Time will tell.
