Violence in American cities has become a grim Memorial Day weekend tradition, and this year is proving no exception. Democrat-run Milwaukee was rocked by seven shootings in a single evening Saturday, leaving two people dead and eight wounded.

Two men in their 40s were killed in a single incident after midnight near N. 37th St. and W. Townsend St. The shooter appears to be still at large.

A witness who lives near the scene of the double murder, who chose to remain anonymous, told CBS 58 that she doesn't feel safe anymore.

"You know I'm just hoping the mayor does something more to protect the community here, it's just really sad," the woman said.

Milwaukee shootings

Roughly an hour after the double murder, a 14-year-old boy was shot and injured near N. 34th St. and W. Wright St in an apparent auto theft. He is expected to survive. A 25-year-old man was taken into custody.

There were five more shootings Saturday night, making seven in less than 10 hours. That's an average of one shooting every 85 minutes.

A third man was killed around midnight Friday evening. Police are still looking for the suspect who killed a 28-year-old man near N. 21st St. and W. Wright around 11:45 p.m.

Four teenaged females were injured in a mass shooting Friday evening near 38th and Roberts.

Around 4 a.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old man was shot during a burglary at N. 10th St. and W. Atkinson Ave. The victim was taken into custody and is expected to survive. A 27-year-old man was also arrested.

No end to carnage

Locals told local Fox affiliate WITI that they hear gunshots almost every night. The violence is so constant they're becoming desensitized to it.

"I’m almost numb to it," said Kenyette Blue. "It’s almost becoming the norm."

In Chicago, eight people were killed and over 30 were injured as of Monday morning. In New York, a comparatively safer city, five people were shot, including a 14-year-old boy.

It's a shame that Americans should have to live this way, in constant fear of gunshots turning their neighborhood into a crime scene.

If you ask Democrats, the answer is to disarm law-abiding people rather than prosecute the criminals causing all of this carnage. When will this madness end?
