What seemed like the perfect marriage is coming to an end — and country music fans are shocked.
Zac Brown, of the Zac Brown Band, and his wife, Shelly, have announced that after 12 years of marriage, they are going their separate ways.
Who would have ever thought getting stood up for a date would change someone’s life?
That, however, is exactly how Zac and Shelly met.
Zac was playing a gig on New Year’s Eve and his date never showed up.
As the ball started to drop, Zac was looking for someone to share a New Year’s kiss with — and there was Shelly.
Zac said it was “game over” the moment their lips touched.
Not long after being married, the couple welcomed their first child to the world.
They ended up having four daughters over the course of their first five years of marriage.
In 2014, Shelly gave birth to their fifth child, a son named Alexander.
The divorce appears to be amicable — at least on the surface.
The couple released a joint statement, saying: “We feel blessed to be on such an incredible journey in life and sometimes the journey begins to lead in different directions.”
They added: “We have led a whirlwind life together growing into a beautiful family with five amazing children and while life will be rearranging a bit, our love and commitment to our family will always be there.”
While the two appreciate everyone’s thoughts and gestures, they both assured everyone they are doing very well.
In fact, they recommended that, rather than spending their time worried about the Browns, fans should spend some extra time with their own family.
Zac Brown is currently touring with his band on the “Down the Rabbit Hole” tour.
Their last album, Welcome Home, was recorded in 2017, but the band is reportedly working on new album that will be significantly different from previous releases.
