Willie Nelson announces he’s no longer smoking weed

Willie Nelson has always been known for his love of cannabis, and has built much of his career around his affinity for it.

However, Nelson stunned his fans by revealing that he has stopped smoking altogether because his health is declining due to the life-long abuse of his lungs, Breitbart reports.

Good old boy

Nelson has never hidden from his background and he has always been embraced because of it. Before Willie could afford to buy his own cigarettes, he said he smoked just about anything he could get his hands on.

He stated that he had “started smoking cedar bark, [then] went from that to cigarettes to whatever.”

When marijuana was made legal in several states, Nelson capitalized on his own reputation as a supporter of marijuana by opening up his own store called Willie’s Reserve.

While he now sells everything you can think of that is related to cannabis, apparently he no longer smokes himself.

“I have abused my lungs quite a bit in the past, so breathing is a little more difficult these days and I have to be careful,” he said.

But don’t take that to mean he has given up marijuana. As his spokesperson stated, there are plenty of ways to use marijuana these days besides smoking it.

The good news

For fans of the 86-year-old country superstar, there was some good news that came out of his recent interview.

After several tour stops were canceled this year due to health problems, there was speculation he would call it quits. That, apparently, is not in the cards.

“I love the bus,” Nelson said. “This is my home.”

So while he may miss a show or two and may even cut back on his schedule, you can rest assured that Nelson will be plucking away at that guitar and singing his songs until his last breath.
