Wife of Clarence Thomas takes flak over justice’s position on controversial election suit

The wife of conservative Supreme Court Justice Clearance Thomas recently found herself the subject of attacks from the political left, TheBlaze reports

The development comes following a recent dissent authored by Justice Thomas in a key election case.

The background

This week, the Supreme Court decided that going forward, it will not hear any lawsuits regarding the 2020 presidential election, which former President Donald Trump and many Republicans maintain was “stolen” by Democrats.

Out of the nine justices on the court, only Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch voted in favor of hearing some of the election cases. The high court’s two other right-leaning jurists, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, sided with their liberal counterparts.

The most notable dissent was that of Justice Thomas, who specifically highlighted the fact that in several states, the executive branch — not the legislative branch, as proscribed by the Constitution — changed election rules before voters hit the polls in 2020. In his dissent, he criticized his colleagues for not wanting to solve this issue ahead of future elections.

“One wonders what this Court waits for,” Thomas wrote, as TheBlaze reported. “We failed to settle this dispute before the election, and thus provide clear rules. Now we again fail to provide clear rules for future elections.”

Thomas went on: “The decision to leave election law hidden beneath a shroud of doubt is baffling. By doing nothing, we invite further confusion and erosion of voter confidence. Our fellow citizens deserve better and expect more of us. I respectfully dissent.”

The attack on Ginni

The dissent has earned both Thomas and his wife, Ginni, the ire of the left.

Ginni Thomas, for her part, is known for being a strong supporter of President Trump, and after her husband handed down his opinion on the recent election suit, Twitter users took her to task for what they argued was undue influence from her on Justice Thomas’s decisions.

Among the loudest critics was Christine Pelosi, the daughter of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). “We will have to learn more about the role [Ginni Thomas] played in raising money for Trump’s deadly #Jan6 ‘Insurrection Day,'” she tweeted, according to TheBlaze.

It’s a sad day for our country when even our most esteemed jurists’ families aren’t safe from the wrath of their political opponents.
