The people of Michigan are heading back into the dungeon.
The iron-fisted Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan’s Democratic governor, has once again decided to lock the state down, Breitbart reports.
“A three-week pause”
According to Breitbart, Whitmer made the announcement Sunday.
In one Twitter post, she wrote: “Tonight, [Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services] issued an emergency order that enacts a three-week pause, targeting indoor social gatherings and other group activities to curb our state’s rising [COVID-19] infection rates.”
The tweet was accompanied by a tone-deaf statement from the governor that read:
In the spring, we listened to public health experts and saved thousands of lives together. I am personally asking each and every one of you to channel that same energy and do everything in your power to protect our communities from this virus and save lives again.
Michigan’s Health and Human Services Department later released the guidelines that people in Michigan are supposed to follow.
Under the guidelines, indoor residential gatherings are limited to only two households at any one time. In-person learning at high schools and colleges has also been suspended.
Breitbart reported: “Indoor dining at restaurants and bars is also banned in the new order. As are theaters, movie theaters, stadiums, arenas, bowling centers, ice skating rinks, indoor water parks, bingo halls, casinos, and arcades. Group fitness classes were also nixed.”
The order will go into effect Wednesday, and, for now, is scheduled to end on Dec. 8.
Will it ever end?
This order comes despite the fact that Whitmer still has mask mandates and social distancing orders that have been in place in the state for months. Many in Michigan have to be asking themselves whether this is ever going to come to an end — and whether their state government will ever allow them to go about their lives again.
Dr. Scott Atlas, a special adviser to President Donald Trump and a member of the White House coronavirus task force, said that people should not tolerate continued lockdowns. “The only way this stops is if people rise up. You get what you accept,” he tweeted Sunday. Of course, he emphasized that he is not talking about violent methods.
For now, Whitmer’s power trip in Michigan will continue unabated. Only time will tell, however, if the state’s residents will soon heed Atlas’ warning.
