For more than two years, Democrats and their media allies have outright accused President Donald Trump of having some sort of treasonous relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and continue to push that narrative, despite the absence of any evidence.
Trump and his administration have consistently pushed back against this “Russia collusion” narrative as a false smear job. On Tuesday, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders denounced the Democrats’ latest effort as “a disgraceful and abusive investigation.”
Disgraceful abuse of Congressional power
The Associated Press reported that the White House voiced strenuous objections once again about unsubstantiated allegations of a “relationship” between Trump and Putin following the issuance of dozens of demand letters by Democrat House Judiciary Committee chair Jerry Nadler.
The correspondence seeks to compel production of a plethora of documents, information, and testimony from dozens of associates, family members, and friends of the president.
Nadler claimed that the 81 request letters he sent out were part of a broad investigation into alleged abuse of power, corruption, and obstruction of justice by the president and members of his administration.
In a swift response, the White House slammed Nadler’s announced probe as “a disgraceful and abusive investigation into tired, false allegations.”
Nadler’s “fishing expedition”
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders asserted, “Chairman Nadler and his fellow Democrats have embarked on this fishing expedition because they are terrified that their two-year false narrative of ‘Russia collusion’ is crumbling.”
“Their intimidation and abuse of American citizens is shameful,” she added.
Sanders further noted in a tweeted statement that, at least from the view of the White House, Nadler’s investigation was little more than an effort to distract from the several ill-received policies currently championed by prominent Democrats, such as an embrace of socialism, extreme abortions and radical environmentalism, among other things.

President Trump himself weighed in with several tweets of his own against Nadler’s effort against him, such as one on Monday quoting Republican California Rep. Devin Nunes, which read, “‘There is no Collusion. All of these investigations are in search of a crime. Democrats have no evidence to impeach President Trump. Ridiculous!’ @DevinNunes @FoxNews”
Tuesday morning, Trump tweeted, “Now that they realize the only Collusion with Russia was done by Crooked Hillary Clinton & the Democrats, Nadler, Schiff and the Dem heads of the Committees have gone stone cold CRAZY. 81 letter sent to innocent people to harass them. They won’t get ANYTHING done for our Country!”
He followed that tweet a short time later with another, which said, “The greatest overreach in the history of our Country. The Dems are obstructing justice and will not get anything done. A big, fat, fishing expedition desperately in search of a crime, when in fact the real crime is what the Dems are doing, and have done!”
