White House refuses to answer questions about its past dismissal of Hunter Biden’s laptop after the New York Times admits that it’s real

Now that the New York Times has admitted that Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop is legitimate, many on the left are having to reckon with past comments that they made dismissing the laptop’s authenticity. This includes the Biden White House.

The Daily Caller, however, reports that, so far, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has decided to dodge all questions related to Hunter’s laptop.

Background

This week, for the first time in two years, the New York Times admitted that the laptop that was abandoned in 2019 at a repair shop in Delaware does belong to Hunter Biden.

In a report that largely focuses on federal agents’ investigation of Hunter Biden’s finances, the Times writes that prosecutors have examined emails between Biden and some of his business associates that “appear to have come from a laptop abandoned by Mr. Biden in a Delaware repair shop” and “were authenticated by people familiar with them and with the investigation.”

The Times and many on the left had dismissed this story from the outset, at first claiming it to be “Russian disinformation.”

Psaki furthered this narrative on multiple occasions, including during the leadup to the 2020 presidential election.

“Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say,” Psaki wrote in October of 2020.

Psaki gets pressed

During Thursday’s press briefing, Psaki was asked multiple times about the comments that she made in the past about Hunter Biden’s laptop, including that it was “Russian disinformation.”

Each time, though, Psaki deflected with, more or less, the same line: “I’d point you to the Department of Justice and also to Hunter Biden’s representatives. He doesn’t work in government.”

It’s easy to see why the White House is taking this approach. After all, for this one, it is not easy to come up with an explanation other than the truth, which is that the left concocted the “Russian disinformation” narrative to explain away the Biden laptop story so that it didn’t hurt Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election. And, what’s more, is that it worked.

Fox News reports: “A poll conducted shortly after the presidential election showed that 17% of Biden voters would not have voted for him if they had known about the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop when they cast their votes.”

The question going forward is “does it matter to Americans that voted for Biden that they were lied to in order to get their votes?” We might find out later this year.
