White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is in big trouble for violating the Hatch Act, which is designed to prevent federal employees from influencing elections.

The Office of Special Counsel confirmed Jean-Pierre had run afoul of the Hatch Act in a letter first obtained by NBC News. Jean-Pierre's use of the term "mega MAGA Republicans" was in violation of the act.

NBC News reported that Jean-Pierre, "violated a law intended to prevent federal employees from using their offices to influence elections when she repeatedly referred to ‘mega MAGA Republicans’ in the run-up to the 2022 midterms, a government watchdog agency said."

Ana Galindo‐Marrone, who's in charge of the group's Hatch Act Unit noted that, "Because Ms. Jean‐Pierre made the statements while acting in her official capacity, she violated the Hatch Act prohibition against using her official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the result of an election."

No accountability

Jean-Pierre's monologue where she broke the Hatch Act was full of insane and arguably deplorable statements. Just before the 2022 midterm elections, Jean-Pierre claimed Republicans were "mega MAGA Republican officials who don’t believe in the rule of law."

The issue was she said this during a White House briefing acting in her official capacity as White House Press Secretary barely a week before a major election.

Federal officials are required to remain impartial in conducting their duties. If Jean-Pierre had made those statements on her own time, she would be free to spread incendiary misinformation.

Warning letter sent

However, it seems the only accountability Jean-Pierre will be facing is a warning letter.

Galindo‐Marrone stated, "We have decided not to pursue disciplinary action and have instead issued Ms. Jean‐Pierre a warning letter."

That isn't particularly surprising considering government officials seem to have little interest in punishing the Biden administration for breaking the rules. It's hard to imagine a Republican Press Secretary would get off without at least a decent fine for a Hatch Act violation.

Michael Chamberlain, the head of Protect the Public’s Trust, responded to the decision by saying "This episode illustrates exactly what people hate about Washington, DC and why they increasingly distrust the Biden Administration’s promises to be the most ethical in history. The Hatch Act was a law used to pillory previous administrations, but officials now appear content to sweep it under the rug."

Biden administration out of control

The Biden administration is able to get away with demonizing Republicans and spreading misinformation and there has been no accountability.

White House press conferences are a mockery of accountability as the White House carefully curates questions from friendly journalists while refusing to take questions on ongoing crises that the administration has created.

There is no accountability and the White House refuses to be transparent with the American people. The only thing that will fix this situation is Democrats being defeated in next year's election to provide a real reason for reformation.
