White House insists Biden will run for reelection in 2024

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre insisted on Sunday that President Joe Biden will run for reelection in 2024, the New York Post reports

Typically, the idea of a president running for a second term would not be that newsworthy. It would simply be assumed.

The situation with President Biden, however, is different due to his lack of support, especially from members of his own party.

Recent polling has shown that Democrat voters are souring on Biden and do not want him to run again in 2024. On top of this, there have been multiple reports citing Democratic Party members and insiders as also indicating that they are looking for the party to move on from Biden in 2024.

The White House addresses the issue

Despite the poor polling and the reports, Biden and the White House have insisted that the president will seek reelection in 2024. Jean-Pierre did so again on Sunday.

“He intends to run. He intends to run,” Jean-Pierre said.

Jean-Pierre, though, stated that, at the moment, the focus is not on 2024. Jean-Pierre said, “he intends to run. We’re not even focused on 2024. We’re focusing on the moment right now.”

What Jean-Pierre and the Biden White House have not addressed is why Biden is so insistent on running in 2024 given his lack of support, particularly from members of his own party. Polls, after all, have shown that a significant majority of Democrat voters do not want Biden to run for reelection.

The Dems’ Biden problem

Given all of this, Biden himself has become a problem for many Democrats heading into the 2022 midterm elections. Many candidates are being asked about their support for Biden, and many don’t seem to have a good answer to that question.

In recent weeks, it appears that Biden and the White House have adopted the strategy of limiting Biden’s access to the public.

It started with Biden’s coronavirus bouts, which resulted in Biden being locked down for several weeks. Then, this past weekend, Biden took a quiet vacation with the first lady, during which he refused to talk with reporters.

It seems obvious that Biden is being viewed as a liability for the Democrats, which, once again, begs the question of why he is so adamant about seeking reelection.
