Democrats will have absolutely no reason to balk at voting on Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh come Friday.
The White House has reportedly authorized an expanded FBI investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh, as long as it is completed by the end of the week, according to a report by The New York Times.
When Senator Jeff Flake conditioned his “yes” vote on a one-week supplemental investigation into Kavanaugh, most conservatives were furious.
President Donald Trump, however, took the approach that he wanted to give the Senators whatever they wanted so as not to leave a shred of doubt about Kavanaugh’s character and ability to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.
Moments after authorizing the seventh FBI investigation into Kavanaugh, Trump sent out a tweet saying his faith in Kavanaugh had not wavered and he believed Kavanaugh would become a great justice.
Democrats, of course, immediately accused Trump of limiting the investigation.
What they ignored was the fact the Judiciary Committee set the actual standards for the investigation.
Then, Democrats went to the media claiming bias and coverup.
So, Trump has once again appeased them by telling the FBI more or less go anywhere they want in this investigation.
Could Be a Good Thing
The second announcement infuriated conservatives even further, but it may turn out to be a good thing.
If you believe Kavanaugh, then he has nothing at all to hide, something Kavanaugh himself has stated numerous times.
Had Trump not agreed to extend the investigation, Kavanaugh’s confirmation would have been tainted with coverup claims.
Now, by opening up the investigation even further, Democrats can no longer make that claim.
This administration has bent over backward to appease them and has given them everything they asked for during this confirmation process.
What Happens Next?
Let’s fast forward to Friday and assume the FBI clears Kavanaugh.
What will the Democrat response be then? Will they support Kavanaugh or will they continue to convict him in the media?
Several Republicans have already come forward to say if Kavanaugh is found to have lied under oath during the hearings with this investigation, his nomination is over, period.
Not one Democrat, however, has come forward to say he or she would confirm Kavanaugh if he is cleared.
That tells you all you need to know about the political mindset of Democrats in office today and it is exactly why they must not gain the majority during mid-term elections.
