One of the primary reasons why the Biden administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been widely criticized by millions of Americans is that most, if not all, administration officials are unable to provide simple clarification as to why and how they make pandemic-related decisions and policy.
That was evidenced recently during a White House press briefing held by deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who was challenged by the press on questions about the delta variant, to which she replied, “I don’t even understand,” before deferring to the “experts,” Mediaite reported.
Pressed on delta
Given the resurgence of the virus, thanks mostly to the highly transmissible delta variant, Newsmax White House correspondent Emerald Robinson asked a reasonable question regarding the testing procedures to determine whether or not a strain is of the delta variant.
“Well, how do you test, when that is the dominant strain in the area — when people just test whether they’re COVID positive or …,” Robinson asked, after first being told by Jean-Pierre that she didn’t understand the question.
The deputy press secretary admitted that she has no earthly idea how delta tests are determined, saying that she relies solely on information garnered from the “experts.”
“Well, we don’t — we don’t — we don’t test the — we don’t test it. We listen to public health and scientists, and they tell us that it’s the delta variant,” Jean-Pierre replied, clearly unable to provide an answer to a question that presumably millions of Americans are also curious about.
Robinson, who was apparently the only reporter in the room with an ounce of journalistic integrity, wasn’t satisfied with Jean Pierre’s response and continued to seek clarification on the matter.
“I don’t even understand”
The Newsmax reporter doubled down on her line of questioning, asking Jean-Pierre if the so-called “experts” have ever explained exactly how they test for the delta variant, which then led to an even more cringeworthy reply from the White House.
“I don’t even understand, why would they explain?” Jean-Pierre fired back. “I mean, that’s what they are telling us. I laid out why — why they — I laid out how contagious it was, and I laid out why we needed to act on the delta variant. I laid out.”
It didn’t take long for Jean-Pierre to realize that she was far out of her depth, which is embarrassing for a White House spokesperson, to say the least, and quickly moved on from Robinson to field friendlier, easy-to-answer questions from her allies in the left-leaning mainstream media.
In other words, Jean-Pierre admitted that she, nor anyone in the White House, has any clue as to how numbers behind the delta variant statistics are determined, which seems to be a rather important question, as the latest surge in cases is being practically solely blamed on the variant.
As America enters what could be a second stage of restrictions and lockdowns as COVID-19 cases spike across the country, Americans have the right to know the data and processes behind determining such decisions. So far, we’ve essentially been left in the dark.
