After her impeachment dreams went up in smoke, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) has taken her rhetoric against President Donald Trump up a notch.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid on Friday, Waters declared, “If it had been left up to me, I would have arrested [Trump] a long time ago.”
The attacks keep coming
Democrats have tried every way possible to get Trump removed from office after he surprised them by winning the 2016 presidential election. Now, Trump’s recent COVID-19 diagnosis has given them yet another angle to try to remove him.
On Friday, House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) announced that she was introducing new legislation that would allow a Congressional panel to evaluate a president, and if they determined him or her to be unfit for office, to remove the president from office under the 25th Amendment. She claimed that this legislation was “not about Trump” but is intended for “future presidents.”
This is a protective measure by Democrats just in case Trump wins this election. Mind you, the allegations of Russian collusion failed and an impeachment investigation failed, but they still keep trying.
Even though the Democrat-controlled House’s partisan resistance against the Trump administration has been despicable, we can at least be thankful Waters is not holding the gavel. Though she is a long-time Congresswoman, Waters has repeatedly made wild allegations against the president, even calling him “Vladimir Putin’s apprentice” at one point.
“Do you think it’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment?” Reid asked Waters.
“Past time. That cabinet of his has no guts. They won’t stand up to him,” the California Democrat said.
Asked whether Congress could do anything to get involved with the internal operations of the White House, Waters said, “We can hold all the hearings in the world, and we can raise all questions. Unfortunately, what we discover was this president is that he has the power to do whatever he wants to do.”
“If, in fact, those employees are not being taken care of, if it’s not safe for them unless they make a decision to walk away unless the families demand they come out of there, there is not a lot we will be able to do about it. If it had been left up to me, I would have arrested him a long time ago,” Waters said.
As usual, her statement is based on fantasy rather than fact.
Sadly, this is far from the end of such talk. If Trump wins re-election, he is certain to face another steady wave of attacks for the next four years.
