 May 22, 2024

Edward Edwards was a serial murderer from Ohio who, between 1977 and 1996, murdered at least five individuals. He murdered two couples in 1977 and 1980, and his foster son, Dannie Boy, was also murdered in 1996.

Numerous conspiracy theories have posited that he might be the Zodiac Killer throughout the years. Others, however, have speculated that he might have been framed and be entirely innocent, as Yahoo News reported.

The documentary "It Was Him: The Many Murders of Ed Edwards" chronicles the crimes committed by an Ohio serial murderer and examines his parallels with notorious serial killers like the Black Dahlia and the Zodiac murderer. In addition, numerous hypotheses concerning his crimes are investigated.

On August 8, 1977, the remains of William Lavaco and Judith Straub were discovered in Silver Creek Park in Norton. At the time of their demise, they were 21 and 18 years old, respectively.

Crime Details

CNN reported that the assailant fired the victims at point-blank range using a 20-gauge shotgun. However, the case remained unresolved for decades until Edwards was apprehended in connection with an unrelated matter and subsequently confessed culpability in both cases.

The events that would become recognized as the Sweetheart Murders occurred in August 1980. The bodies of Tim Hack and Kelly Drew were discovered in a Wisconsin cornfield.

Both victims, aged 19, were reportedly in attendance at Concord House, a dance hall in Sullivan, for a wedding reception.

According to a report by NBC News, they were reported missing on August 10, 1980, after their last known whereabouts were from the reception. A few months later, decomposing remains of the couple were discovered in close proximity to the reception hall.

More Victims

Tim Hack was discovered dead by puncture wounds. Kelly Drew suffered a sexual assault followed by suffocation. Her shredded bra, trousers, and undergarments were discovered on a nearby road. Edwards was a handyman in the structure adjacent to the wedding reception hall.

Despite questioning the handymen in Edwards's building, investigators were unable to generate any leads. The serial murderer reportedly packed the family's belongings and fled the area with his family as the investigation into the murders of Tim Hack and Kelly Drew progressed, as reported by Oxygen.

Each time he committed a homicide, he allegedly relocated the family to a different location.

Family Matters

Edwards murdered his foster son, Dannie Boy, in 1996, when Boy was 25 years old. He purportedly conveyed his desire for him to be discharged from the military and assured him of his assistance in that regard.

Edwards fatally shot Boy in the face after Boy followed him into the woodlands, whereupon he was led, after Boy had accepted his word.

Additionally, he allegedly retrieved $250,000 of Boy's insurance money after his demise, according to Cleveland.com. In 2008, after over a decade had passed, the investigation into the Sweetheart Murders was recommenced.
