Heading into five months after being tasked by President Joe Biden to explore the root causes of the immigration surge, Vice President Kamala Harris has made little to no meaningful progress on the issue.
She doesn’t seem to be worried about the crisis, either, as Harris’ office just announced her next big trip, which has nothing to do with the southern U.S. border. According to Fox News, the vice president will embark on a trip to Vietnam and then Singapore next month.
Why those countries?
Harris’ top spokesperson, Symone Sanders, revealed that Harris’ trip to the two Asian countries includes her goal to “strengthen relationships and expand economic support.”
“President Biden and Vice President Harris have made it a top priority to rebuild our global partnerships and keep our nation secure, and this upcoming visit continues that work – deepening our engagement in Southeast Asia,” Sanders added, according to Fox.
The trip will mark Harris’ second journey outside of the United States, having previously traveled to Guatemala and Mexico in what many believe are largely failed efforts to make a dent in the ongoing immigration crisis at the southern U.S. border.
The vice president is reportedly scheduled to touch on a number of topics while in Asia, including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, regional security issues, and she’ll also reportedly promote the Biden administration’s American Rescue Plan.
The trip to Vietnam could stir controversy, as the country has emerged as one of the few Asian nations to oppose China’s territorial claims in the South China Sea.
What about the border?
Harris’ next trip abroad will undoubtedly raise questions from her political opponents, and millions of Americans, as to why she’s seemingly looking the other way as the border immigration crisis continues to explode, bringing with it now a new threat of thousands of potentially COVID-19-infected migrants crossing the border.
Top Democrats and most of their allies in the mainstream media have spent the past week working overtime to counter claims that untested, COVID-19-infected illegals are pouring across the border, possibly contributing to the new resurgence in cases.
However, according to a Fox News report, Texas law enforcement officials uncovered a recent situation in which illegals who tested positive for the virus were released from federal custody to a Catholic charity, which then booked hotel rooms in a local community for the infected illegals and failed to notify health officials of their sickness.
“We did not know this,” La Joya, Texas police Sgt. Manuel Casas told Fox. “No one told the city of La Joya. No one told the police department that these people were here and no one told us that these people were possibly ill.”
With what should be a renewed, bipartisan sense of urgency to stop illegal immigrants who might be carrying the virus into the United States, Harris apparently believes a trip to Asia is a better use of her time and resources.
