Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) superstar Conor McGregor was arrested earlier this week, Fox News reports.
McGregor is now facing a dangerous driving charge.

The incident that led to McGregor’s arrest occurred on Tuesday in Dublin, Ireland, the fighter’s home country.
McGregor was driving his $185,000 Bentley Continental GT along N4, between Lucan and Palmerstown, when, according to the Irish Independent, he came to the attention of the national police service of Ireland. The outlet reports that the gardai pulled McGregor over and placed him under arrest “for road traffic offenses.”
McGregor was taken to the Lucan Garda police station where he was charged with dangerous driving. While McGregor was at the station, his Bentley was also seized by authorities.
It is being reported, though, that the car has since been returned to him.
A spokesperson for McGregor put out a statement following the fighter’s arrest:”Mr McGregor was driving to the gym when he was stopped by gardaí for alleged road traffic violations. He passed the drug and alcohol tests taken at the station.”
McGregor’s history with law
One thing that might bode against McGregor here is that, as Fox News reports, McGregor does have “a history of driving offenses.” McGregor, for example, in the very same part of Ireland was fined in 2017 for speeding.
McGregor has also been involved in incidents other than traffic violations. In 2018, for example, McGregor got into trouble for infamously throwing a dolly at a bus, in the process injuring several fighters.
The dangerous driving penalty that McGregor is now facing carries a maximum prison sentence of six-months. It also carries a maximum fine of $5,500.
McGregor’s next court appearance will be in Blanchardstown District Court. This is the same court that fined McGregor for speeding in 2017. A court date has yet to be set – it is listed as “pending.”
McGregor, as his spokeperson mentioned, has been training in Ireland. The purpose of the training is to make a comeback to the UFC after the devastating leg injury that he suffered last summer during his fight against Dustin Poirier. It is unclear whether this arrest will impact McGregor’s training.
