Two more officers involved in Jan. 6 riot found dead from apparent suicides: Reports

Recent news reports revealed that two more officers who responded to the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill have died from apparent suicides.

A spokesperson for the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department made the startling announcement on Monday. The officers were identified as Gunther Hashida, who was found dead at his home on July 29, and Kyle DeFreytag, who was found dead earlier the same month.

Apparent double standard

In total, four officers have now reportedly died by suicide in the months since they responded to the Capitol siege.

Democrats have pursued the narrative that the Jan. 6 incident was a horrific event, though many in the GOP accuse them of effectively ignoring the riots that gripped the nation last summer.

In fact, protests quickly turned destructive and violent in Lafayette Square near the White House last year. Police and National Guard forces were deployed to respond to that situation.

All told, riots in communities across the nation last year reportedly caused billions of dollars in property damage and hundreds of injuries. Politics surrounding the Jan. 6 riot, however, appear to have caused many in the Democratic Party and mainstream media to advertise it as far more significant.

Political intrigue surrounding the Capitol riot includes the partisan Democrat-led congressional commission investigating the event.

The blame game

Republicans have alleged that Democrats actually bear responsibility for the riot — particularly House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who reportedly refused to bring in the National Guard.

As far back as February, four House Republicans sent Pelosi a letter outlining the influence she held over the security decisions made prior to the Jan. 6 riot.

For their part, Democratic leaders have refused to release certain video footage. Combined with the secretive nature of the investigation, some critics are beginning to speculate that they are attempting to hide something. The tragic string of deaths attributed to suicide only brings about a troubling new set of questions.

Of course, it is possible that these four officers simply succumbed to the long-term stress of the job, whether the Jan. 6 riot was a factor or not.

Meanwhile, Democrats might not want to continue shedding light on the Jan. 6 riot amid recurring claims that they were the architects of the entire event.
