‘Twitter Files:’ DNC asked Twitter to censor actor James Woods

The newly-released “Twitter Files” reveal that the Democratic National Committee (DNC), in 2020, asked Twitter to censor actor James Woods.

You are likely familiar with Woods’ acting given the many well-known roles that he has had throughout his long acting career.

But, you may not be familiar with the fact that, politically, he aligns with the right: that’s right, he’s part of that rare breed of “conservative actors.” And, he hasn’t been shy about this fact either, frequently using social media to target the left.

So, it is not surprising to hear that the DNC would want Woods censored. But, here, they were targeting Woods over something specific.

What happened?

The following information comes from the so-called Twitter Files. On Friday evening, the company’s new owner, Elon Musk, through journalist Matt Taibbi, released a series of “files” to explain Twitter’s infamous censorship of the New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop story just before the 2020 presidential election.

Twitter File #8 reveals that “by 2020, requests from connected actors to delete tweets were routine. One executive would write to another: ‘More to review from the Biden team.’ The reply would come back: ‘Handled.'”

Then, Twitter File #9 states, “celebrities and unknowns alike could be removed or reviewed at the behest of a political party.” And, here evidence is provided showing that, in October 2020, the DNC asked Twitter to censor Woods over one particular tweet.

The tweet from Woods came after the Post’s Hunter Biden laptop bombshell. Breitbart reports:

Woods tweeted, on October 24, 2020, a meme of Hunter Biden after the Hunter Biden laptop story broke that showed a photo of Hunter apparently taking drugs and engaging in a sexual act. The photo was accompanied by a parody of a campaign ad that said, “I’m on Team Toe.” Woods tweeted, “Feets, don’t fail me now.”

Twitter did as asked.

Woods responds

On Friday night, Woods made an appearance on the Fox News Channel in order to discuss the revelation that Twitter censored him at the request of the DNC.

There, Woods said that he intends to file a lawsuit over the situation.

“I can guarantee you one thing more than anything else you’ll ever hear in your life: I will be getting a lawyer,” Woods said. “I will be suing the Democratic National Committee no matter what.”

Woods, on Twitter, even asked Musk whether he would “like to fund a class action suit for those who were suppressed?” with woods saying that he’d “be happy to be lead plaintiff.”

We’ll have to keep an eye on this. But, one thing that can now be said for certain is that Twitter, under its former leadership, censored users at the request of the government. The question that many are now asking is “how isn’t this a clear violation of the First Amendment?”
