Former presidential candidate and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) has always been something of the odd-one-out with an independent streak in the Democratic Party, and she has become even more outspoken about her differences with party leadership in recent days.
Now, Gabbard is openly calling out her fellow Democrats for their abhorrent reactions to electoral losses, stalled legislative agenda, a lack of respect for their fellow Americans, and the party’s insane policies that are only deepening societal divisions.
The former Hawaii representative’s chastisement came in response to the absurd reaction of Democrats and the media to Republican victories in Virginia’s elections as well as leftist climate activists harassing and threatening moderate Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) over his opposition to parts of President Joe Biden’s agenda.
Calling out the Dems
Gabbard first spoke out this week following Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin’s electoral win over Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe in Virginia, and lauded that victory as a triumph over the divisive race-baiting the McAuliffe campaign had blatantly engaged in.
“McAuliffe’s loss is a victory for all Americans. Why? Because it was a resounding rejection of efforts to divide us by race, the stripping of parental rights, and arrogant, deaf leaders. This benefits us all,” she tweeted Wednesday.
Her criticism only grew more strident days later, however, after Democrats and the media had settled on and pushed a narrative insinuating that Youngkin had only prevailed over McAuliffe because he used racist “dog whistles” to rally the support of hateful white supremacists or other such deliberately divisive and disrespectful nonsense.
“My fellow Dems: if you want people to vote for you, stop calling millions of Americans dogs — only dogs respond to ‘dog whistles’. Stop trying to divide us by the color of our skin. End your open-border policy. Treat us all with the respect we deserve as Americans & God’s children,” Gabbard wrote in a tweet Friday.
Done with “party politics”
Gabbard reiterated that same message in a tweet Sunday that also included a video clip of a recent appearance by her with Fox News host Sean Hannity during which she had expounded more broadly on the issues plaguing the country that, to some extent, she thinks are being directly caused or exacerbated by her party.
In reference to the activists who had surrounded Sen. Manchin in his car — and then accused him of attempting to run them over — Gabbard called out their “exaggeration” and “dishonesty,” which she described as “just the latest example of a disturbing larger pattern of dishonesty and disrespect for the American people, where they think that we’re just stupid.”
She said the same was evident in the “racist dog whistle” narrative following McAuliffe’s loss, which she claimed revealed how some on the left truly view their fellow Americans — “that we’re stupid, that we’re dogs, that we don’t have intelligence or free will to make our own decisions for ourselves” and should just blindly trust them to make decisions on behalf of everybody else.
Gabbard proceeded to call out Democratic leadership for its “continued disrespect” of Americans and their legitimate concerns about the economy, education, illegal immigration, parental rights, racial divisions, and other pressing issues.
The former congresswoman and presidential candidate didn’t quite go so far as to disclaim the Democratic Party as a whole, but she did make it abundantly clear that she was thoroughly done with “party politics” as it currently stands and was open to different ideas that could help address the problems that impact everybody.
