Fox News host Tucker Carlson came out swinging against the attorney general of Michigan after a restaurant owner was arrested after appearing on his self-titled program.
Fox News reports that Marlena Pavlos-Hackney, an immigrant and business owner in Michigan, was thrown behind bars for keeping the doors to her restaurant open despite local orders banning such a practice amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Michigan’s MLive.com, Pavlos-Hackney was released Wednesday on the condition that she close her restaurant and pay $15,000 in fines.
“Out of control”
In Carlson’s eyes, it all started when the restaurant owner appeared on his show. That’s when Michigan’s AG, Dana Nessel, pounced, the Fox host said.
“Dana Nessel is out of control. She is an ideologue, she cares only about partisan advantage. She should be impeached by the Michigan legislature for her many abuses of power. She’s that corrupt,” Carlson said, according to Fox.
“But she’s also a bit of a dim bulb. Not a super genius. That’s why, when she was asked why she put Marlena Pavlos-Hackney in jail, Nessel actually admitted the real reason,” Carlson alleged. “She didn’t make up some fake legal principle. She said straightforwardly that Marlena Pavlos-Hackney had dared to come on this show at 8 p.m. and complain about her. That’s no longer allowed.”
The Fox host added: “To compound the offense, Pavlos-Hackney tried to raise money for her own legal defense. That, too, is now a crime in Dana Nessel’s Michigan.”
Carlson then compared Nessel’s rule to a dictatorship, saying, “Sound like America to you? No it doesn’t. It sounds like dictatorship. Dana Nessel is a threat to the rule of law, the law that she charged with enforcing and she should be removed immediately.
“Ankle shackles and wrist cuffs”
Carlson had previously said Pavlos-Hackney was “taken away in ankle shackles and wrist cuffs.”
“One of the few people in this country who gets up really early to go to work because she really cares, trying her very hardest and they grabbed her and they sent her away for longer than people who commit gun crimes in Detroit get,” he lamented, according to a separate report from Fox.
But while Pavlos-Hackney may not have Michigan’s Democratic leaders on her side, it seems she’s won over many Americans.
According to MLive.com, a GoFundMe campaign to benefit the restaurateur was nearing its $300,000 goal as of this week.
