In a segment that sparked backlash from viewers, Fox News host Tucker Carlson took attorney Sidney Powell to task on Thursday for failing to provide specific evidence to support her claims that voting software was intentionally programmed to help Joe Biden pull out a win against President Donald Trump in this year’s race for the White House. Now, Carlson is doubling down.
After Powell issued a rebuke of Carlson for his lack of confidence, the Fox host returned to the subject on his Friday show to drop a bomb, saying that Powell may have uncovered “the greatest crime in the history of this country” — that is, if she can prove it.
Powell pushes back
Carlson had asserted in a Thursday segment of Tucker Carlson Tonight that despite his repeated requests, Powell hadn’t provided him with any hard evidence to prove her allegations of election fraud.
“She never sent us any evidence, despite a lot of requests — polite requests. Not a page. When we kept pressing, she got angry and told us to stop contacting her,” the Fox host said Thursday, according to The Blaze. “When we checked with others around the Trump campaign, people in positions of authority, they also told us Powell has never given them any evidence, either.”
The segment provoked an angry backlash on social media and prompted a response from Powell, who told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on Friday morning that Carlson was “very insulting, demanding, and rude” when making his requests, The Blaze reported.
Nevertheless, Powell insisted that she would soon present the evidence, perhaps within weeks.
Carlson doubles down
But that wasn’t enough for Carlson, who stopped short of apologizing to Powell when he addressed the growing controversy again during his Friday night program.
According to the Daily Wire, the Fox host claimed that he’s “heard from a lot of people about that segment, including people in the White House and people close to the president,” but they also “have not seen a single piece of evidence showing that software changed votes.” Of course, Carlson admitted that “doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.”
“It might have happened,” he conceded. But “they haven’t seen any evidence that it happened,” he said, as the Daily Wire reported.
Still, Carlson says he’s hoping Powell does pull through. “If Sidney Powell can prove that technology companies switched millions of votes and stole a presidential election, she will have, almost single-handedly, uncovered the greatest crime in the history of this country,” the Fox host concluded, “and no one will be more grateful for that than us.”
