Self-proclaimed democratic socialist New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has emerged as the media’s favorite newcomer to the Democratic Party, and she has routinely used that platform to launch attacks against President Donald Trump.
The president was asked by a reporter for a response to a recent broadside against him from Ocasio-Cortez, but he dismissed both the attack and attacker with such unexpected nonchalance that it left the media and all of Trump’s detractors scrambling to determine their own response to the response.
Ocasio-Cortez said during a recent nationally-televised interview that there was “no question” in her mind that Trump was a “racist,” among several other pointed criticisms.
On Monday, prior to leaving the White House for a policy speech in New Orleans, Louisiana, the president stopped to take questions from reporters, as he routinely does when coming and going on trips.
A reporter shouted, “Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has called you a racist…”
Trump asked, “Who did?”
The reporter reiterated, “Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez.”
With a dismissive wave of his hand, Trump replied, “Who cares?” and moved on to another reporter.

Not the expected response
Trump’s nonchalant dismissal of Ocasio-Cortez’s harsh attack most likely caught the media off guard. They likely assumed that Trump would lash out with some sort of mini-tirade against the new member of Congress who has soaked up so much media attention.
However, Trump’s dismissive response may have actually been the best path for him to take — the path of non-engagement — as striking back with a counter-punch was the expected response that had undoubtedly been prepared for to some extent by the congresswoman and her supporters, both in general and among the media.
In truth, far too much attention has been paid to Ocasio-Cortez over the past several months — both by the adoring liberal media and by conservatives calling her out for her ignorant economic and political statements and proposed policies.
Everyone on the right should adopt this “Who cares?” response from Trump with respect to the new congresswoman, and dismissively wave away any and all utterances by Ocasio-Cortez as being unworthy of a response … because they typically aren’t.
