Trump says he blocked White House officials from impeachment testimony to protect ‘future presidents’
President Donald Trump is fighting back against the Democrat inquisition in the House of Representatives. They have made it clear they will railroad impeachment through the chamber by any means necessary.
Trump wants to fight back, and he’s infuriated Democrats by keeping White House aides from testifying in the House, saying that he’s doing it to protect future presidents from similar treatment.
Protecting the office
House Democrats have subpoenaed a large number of White House officials to testify in the impeachment inquiry hearings, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Energy Secretary Rick Perry, and White House Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney.
Trump has blocked all of them from testifying, but the issue has been complicated the fact that Democrats have turned to the courts to force their testimony.
President Trump defended his actions in a fiery tweet, saying, “The D.C. Wolves and Fake News Media are reading far too much into people being forced by Courts to testify before Congress. I am fighting for future Presidents and the Office of the President.”
President Trump asserted that no future President should face what he has faced. Plenty of past presidents have faced serious resistance from their political opposition, but nothing like the unrelenting and unfounded attacks with which Trump has been confronted.
Democrats have been waging war on the Trump administration since the day he stepped into the office. They made it clear they wanted him impeached, crime or no crime. Trump’s move to block top officials from testifying is his answer to a highly biased and unfair impeachment inquiry.
Trump still wants testimony
While Trump, for the time being, will fight House Democrat efforts to compel White House officials to testify, he does want to settle the fight — but on fair terms.
Further on in the same tweet thread, Trump said, “I would love to have Mike Pompeo, Rick Perry, Mick Mulvaney and many others testify about the phony Impeachment Hoax.”
The only thing keeping the impeachment inquiry alive is Adam Schiff’s iron-fisted grip on the House and his control of information.
The public impeachment inquiry hearings clearly showed that Democrats had nothing on President Trump. Yet, Democrats have refused to concede, and almost three months have been wasted on the sham.
With Democrats’ decision to put politics over the actual needs of the country, it’s refreshing to see President Trump fight back.
