President Joe Biden and his administration have taken an entirely different approach in dealing with America’s top adversaries, like China, than former President Donald Trump did during his time in office.
According to Fox News, the former president has apparently kept an eye on the situation, and in an exclusive interview with the outlet, revealed a dire warning for the Biden administration moving forward, saying that Biden’s method of dealing with China “shows such weakness.”
“China respected this country when I was president,” Trump told Fox. “China does not respect our country any more. It is very sad.”
What’s going on?
Trump was referring to developments from September when President Biden spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping for only the second time in his presidency.
Biden’s White House later made clear that the call between the two world leaders was “part of the United States’ ongoing effort to responsibly manage the competition between the United States and the PRC.”
Not long after the call, the White House also indicated that “the two leaders discussed the responsibility of both nations to ensure competition does not veer into conflict.”
Trump, however, is not a fan of that approach, warning that it shows incredible weakness on America’s part.
“I don’t think it is a good way to express it to China,” Trump said. “It shows such weakness. We have shown such weakness.”
Trump’s interview came at roughly the same time, CNBC noted, that President Xi Jinping spoke about his upcoming virtual meeting with the U.S. president, saying his country is ready to work with America if the relationship is based on “mutual respect.”
“Right now, China-U.S. relations are at a critical historical juncture,” the communist Chinese president said in a letter. “Following the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, China stands ready to work with the United States to enhance exchanges and cooperation across the board.”
President Jinping added: “Both countries will gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. Cooperation is the only right choice.”
It’s frightening to think that America’s relationship with China hinges on the weak and ineffective leadership of someone like Biden, which is something we never had to be afraid of when Trump was at the helm, as the Chinese knew exactly how far they could go before Trump reacted.
