Virginia’s Democratic governor, Ralph Northam, is currently launching an all-out assault on the Second Amendment rights of the citizens of his state.
With more legislative proposals pending in the Virginia state legislature and pro-gun right advocates ready to protest at the state capitol, President Donald Trump just issued an urgent warning that the Second Amendment is in great danger in the commonwealth.
Your 2nd Amendment is under very serious attack in the Great Commonwealth of Virginia. That’s what happens when you vote for Democrats, they will take your guns away. Republicans will win Virginia in 2020. Thank you Dems!

Virginia gun grab
At the tail end of 2019, the Democrat-led Senate of Virginia tried to make a massive gun grab.
The result of that attack against the Second Amendment was the launching of a grassroots movement of pro-gun advocates throughout the state.
Local communities voted to turn their counties and cities into Second Amendment sanctuary cities. Eventually, Northam backed away from legislative proposals and talk of stringent enforcement of gun restrictions, but state Democrats are far from giving up.
Currently, there are numerous proposals in front of the Virginia Senate to limit or block the purchase of arms by law-abiding citizens. Many pundits believe Democrats are trying to use Virginia as a gateway state to see how extensively and successfully they can implement their gun grabs, but this will not happen without a fight.
For his part, Northam laid out a litany of gun-control proposals in November, from universal background checks to banning the sale of semi-automatic firearms and high-capacity magazines to a so-called red flag law. Most disturbingly, when asked about plans for outright gun confiscation, Northam replied, “That’s something I’m working [on] with our secretary of public safety.”
Northam has already attacked Second Amendment protections by putting a temporary ban in place to prevent citizens from being able to carry their guns during a planned protest at the capitol in Richmond.
Democrats will look to place the blame for resistance to Northam’s measures on the National Rifle Association, but Philip Van Cleave, President of Virginia Citizens Defense League, said in December that the governor’s overreach has ignited a “grassroots” movement that has prompted a “referendum saying ‘no more gun control.’”
Anti-Second Amendment Democrats have clearly bitten off more than they can chew, as is evidenced by plans for a major demonstration on Monday against the comprehensive gun control proposals.
