Jonathan Sparks says he was assaulted simply for being a Trump supporter.
Mr. Sparks was hospitalized, his ankle broken in four different spots, after being violently attacked on the streets of Tucson.
Sparks says he was wearing a MAGA hat as he carried a political sign in downtown Tucson, urging people to vote Republican in the midterms.
Then someone grabbed his head from behind, pulling on his hair and crushing his ankle.
Mr. Sparks attempted to fight off the assailant, with both of them falling to the ground.
During the struggle, Sparks’ hat came off, but he did manage to reach out and grab the hat back during the assault.
While all this was going on, Sparks said the man was yelling out words like, “Hitler” and “Nazi.”
Witnesses saw the attack and helped hold the attacker off Sparks until the authorities arrived.
Police eventually arrived and the attacker was arrested for assault.
One would think Sparks would be extremely bitter after the attack, but that was not the case.
Quite the contrary, actually.
As he recovers from surgery on his broken ankle, Sparks has chosen to focus on the people that helped get the attacker off him until authorities arrived. “There were people who pulled him off, paramedics who stayed with me, there is a police officer that protected me,” he said.
“I was attacked with vengeance by an evil man,” Sparks said.
Describing the attack, Sparks said, “The assailant jumped onto my ankle from behind. And so, not knowing my ankle was broken into four pieces, I turned around to grab and take the hat back.”
“But you know what I learned? You know what God taught me through the whole thing? How wonderful Tucson is,” he added.
Something else he learned about was in how the media covers attacks on Trump supporters.
Sparks was quick to note that had he held up a sign with a different ideology and had been attacked, this story would have been covered nationally rather than just the local news.
Sadly, he is absolutely correct.
The media all but embraces attacks against Trump supporters, burying them at the bottom of headlines to keep pushing their own narrative about the President and those that support him.
