Trump stops speech to bring fallen police officer’s family on stage

For those that say Trump is out of touch with Americans, they need only watch the scene from the National Peace Officer’s Memorial Service recently held in Washington.

Right in the middle of his speech, he abruptly stopped to bring up the family of fallen New York City Police Detective Miosotis Familia…

Always About the People

The press often gives Trump a hard time for the manner in which he speaks in public.

He does not have the polish of those who have spent their entire careers in office.

Nobody is debating that.

What he does have, however, is the uncanny knack of knowing how and when to get people involved.

The moment at the memorial service was one of those times.

You could clearly see the joy in being recognized by the family when they were brought up on stage.

And the emotion from the mother, as she held the President’s hand and grasped on to his arm while he finished his speech is something no one will ever forget.

Family Ties

Trump chose that family no doubt because of their ties to New York.

Trump himself even stated the NYPD is close to his heart, for obvious reasons, during his speech.

But, he also felt it was important to let people know the sacrifice of the fallen is not in vain.

While some of their lives were taken in despicable manners, what they represented will live on forever.

In this case, Detective Familia fell victim to an ambush, but she was doing what she loved to do, patrolling the streets to keep the people of New York City safe.

One of her fellow officers put it best, stating, “She may have been lost that night, but she saved a lot of lives in turn because of her memory and everything that transpired after the fact. She was an incredible person.”

RIP Detective Familia as well as the rest of the officers that have fallen in the line of duty this year.
