Trump slams RFK Jr.'s vice president pick

 March 30, 2024

Former President Donald Trump just blasted Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for picking Nicole Shanahan to be his running mate in the 2024 presidential election.

Trump did so with a social media post in which he referred to Kennedy as "the most radical left candidate in the [2024 race for the U.S. presidency]" and in which he referred to Shanahan as "even more 'Liberal' than [Kennedy]."

The former president posted the message to his Truth Social account on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. This was just after it was revealed that Kennedy selected Shanahan.

She's "even more 'Liberal' than him"

Trump began his message with an attack on Kennedy's politics.

"RFK Jr. is the most Radical Left Candidate in the race, by far. He’s a big fan of the Green New Scam, and other economy killing disasters. I guess this would mean he is going to be taking votes from Crooked Joe Biden, which would be a great service to America," Trump wrote.

Not too long ago, there was talk of Trump selecting Kennedy to be his running mate, Trump being the Republican frontrunner in the 2024 presidential race. But, Trump put an end to such rumors with statements like this one.

The former president continued by targeting Shanahan, calling her, "even more 'Liberal' than [Kennedy]."

Trump wrote, "Kennedy is a Radical Left Democrat, and always will be!!! It’s great for MAGA, but the Communists will make it very hard for him to get on the Ballot. Expect him, and her, to be indicted any day now, probably for Environmental Fraud! He is Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent, not mine. I love that he is running!"

Filling in the blanks

What Trump is referring to here is the idea that Kennedy's independent presidential run is going to hurt President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election a lot more than it is going to hurt Trump. Polls would suggest that there is some truth to this.

The Washington Examiner reports, "A recent Harvard CAPS/Harris poll showed Trump beating Biden, 41% to 37%, with Kennedy pulling 15% in a hypothetical matchup. This is a 7 percentage point increase for Trump since February. That same poll showed Trump is the first-choice pick for 43% of participants, Biden is the first choice for 39%, and Kennedy is the first choice for 17%."

The outlet adds, "A RealClearPolitics poll average showed Trump leading Biden at 40.7% to 35.3%, with Kennedy polling at 12.3%, a sign that Kennedy's support comes at Biden's expense."

This is why Trump said that Biden and the Democrats are going to make it hard for Kennedy's campaign to survive, including by indicting him - just as the Democrats have done to Trump.

We'll have to see, in the coming months, how this all plays out. But, at the present, it is not looking good for Biden.
