Now that President Donald Trump thinks the attorney general is on the same page as him, he’s firing both barrels at the Mueller investigation.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the president slammed Robert Mueller’s “illegal investigation,” and didn’t hold back from naming the perpetrators outright.
“These were bad people”
Trump hasn’t made it a secret that he would love to hold accountable the people involved in the start of the bogus investigation into alleged collusion between his 2016 campaign team and the Kremlin. They are responsible for wasting two years and more than $25 million in taxpayer funds.
So when Attorney General William Barr said that he thought there was actually spying on Trump’s campaign, that was the green light Trump needed to let it fly.
“It was an illegal investigation,” the president told reporters on Wednesday. “It was started illegally. Everything about it was crooked. Every single thing about it. There were dirty cops. These were bad people.”
He went on: “You look at [Andrew] McCabe and [James] Comey, and you look at Lisa [Page] and Peter Strzok, these were bad people. And this was an attempted coup, this was an attempted takedown of a president. And we beat them.”
And the president didn’t shy away from calling out treason when he saw it.
“What they did was treason, what they did was terrible, what they did was against our Constitution and everything we stand for,” he said.
Take a look:
“Treason” and “coup” are not words that should be thrown around lightly by any president, but Trump is surely justified in using those terms here.
Barr recently said that an investigation into the FISA warrants and the beginnings of this investigation are on the docket for the inspector general.
If Barr finds evidence, this will be a bigger bombshell than Robert Hanssen or Aldrich Ames.
We can only hope the that if Barr does find evidence against those involved in starting Mueller’s probe, it is shown while Trump is still in office, so the justice will be swift and severe.
