Recent events in London have drawn the attention and ire of President Donald Trump.
After several brutal murders happened in the city of London, Trump sniped via Twitter that the city’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, “is a national disgrace who is destroying the City of London!”
The rift between the London mayor and Donald Trump has been going on for quite some time. It really kicked into high gear when Trump issued the travel ban to limit travel between Muslim-dominated countries.
The first time Trump traveled to England for a visit with the queen, Khan made it a point to attack Trump every time a microphone was jammed into his face.
This time around, though, Khan took it to a whole new level.
Khas not only refused to attend any events held for Trump (if he had even been invited), he also stated the queen should not roll out the red carpet for Trump, this being an official state visit.
As far as he was concerned, the U.S. president is simply not worthy of it.
Khan can be as critical of Trump as he likes, but his record gives him no ground to stand on.
He has presided over the city during some of its darkest moments, yet continues to refuse to address the root issue of this wave of violent crimes in his very own city.
The events that led to the comments by Trump are proof of that. In a span of fewer than 24 hours, three brutal knife murders were carried out in the city, commanding international headlines.
Khan’s supporters immediately came to his defense, stating he is working with local law enforcement and giving them all the support he can to get this situation under control.
They echoed Khan’s sentiments that at a time such as this, Khan could not waste his time responding to the tweets of President Trump.
