President Donald Trump never misses an opportunity to rip House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), one of his top Democratic opponents — and this week was no different.
Following Pelosi’s introduction of legislation that would create a body to remove an “unfit” president, Trump devastated the House speaker in an interview with Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures, saying Pelosi wouldn’t be able to pass a “basic aptitude test,” as the New York Post reported.
The 25th Amendment
On Friday, Pelosi announced legislation that would form a committee tasked with determining whether or not a president has the capacity to do his or her job, according to Fox News.
Under the 25th Amendment, the vice president would take over the presidency should the president no longer be able “to discharge the powers and duties of his office.” Under the new legislation, a newly established committee could make that determination.
It appeared the legislation was the Democrats’ latest plan to remove Trump from office, as Pelosi just recently accused the president of being “in an altered state” from the coronavirus treatment he received, Fox noted.
But during a press conference on Friday, Pelosi insisted otherwise. “This is not about President Trump. He will face the judgment of the voters, but he shows the need to create a process for future presidents,” she said, according to NBC News.
While some view this as another bid to try to oust Trump, others, including the president, believe the goal is to make it easier to remove Biden and put Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) in the Oval Office.
Trump hits back
In a tweet Friday, Trump explained the Democrats’ plan.
“Crazy Nancy Pelosi is looking at the 25th Amendment in order to replace Joe Biden with Kamala Harris,” he wrote. “The Dems want that to happen fast because Sleepy Joe is out of it!!!”
Trump reiterated his stance during an appearance on The Rush Limbaugh Show on Friday. “The 25th Amendment that crazy Nancy’s playing around with — she’s gone crazy, she’s a nut job — but this 25th Amendment, I think they put it in so they can get Kamala in,” he said, according to Rev.
While discussing the new legislation with Fox host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, Trump pointed out the irony of Pelosi wanting to form a committee on aptitude. “I don’t think she could pass basic aptitude tests, personally,” he said on Sunday Morning Futures, according to the New York Post. “I really don’t. I don’t believe it.”
The president then revealed once again what he thinks is the real purpose of the legislation: “I think she’s talking about Joe Biden, because to be honest with you, he’s the one that’s got the problem and it’s obvious to anybody that watches him speak.”
