Trump responds to shooting of Patriot Prayer supporter: ‘Rest In Peace Jay!’

A man was shot dead on the street of Portland, Oregon on Saturday night, following altercations between Trump supporters and Portland protesters.

The victim was identified by police on Monday as 39-year-old Aaron “Jay” Danielson, a supporter of Patriot Prayer. “I can’t say much right now. All I can do is verify that he was a good friend and a supporter of Patriot Prayer,” Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson told the AP.

A suspect, identified as Michael Forest Reinoehl, is being investigated by authorities after a family member identified him as the man in videos from the scene.

Police Chief Chuck Lovell issued a statement on the investigation, saying, “It is still early in this investigation, and I ask everyone to give the detectives time to do their important work before drawing conclusions about what took place.”

Antifa cheers

Afterwards, an apparent antifa associate was caught on camera addressing a cheering crowd, saying, “I am not sad that a f—ing fascist died tonight. If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. If y’all are not with me, y’all are not paying attention.”

If the allegations are true, this is a case of a member of antifa who felt justified in gunning down another American because of differences of opinion.

Reinoehl’s estranged sister, who ID’ed him for authorities, said, “I have friends, family and loved ones on both sides of the conflict. Violence begets violence and hatred begets hatred. This is not the solution. My heart goes out to the victim. It always has, before I even knew my brother was involved.”

Reinoehl’s social media history included statements that signaled his belief in sacrificial actions for the cause of the revolution. As reported by The Oregonian, a post on June 16 read as follows:

Every Revolution needs people that are willing and ready to fight. There are so many of us protesters that are just protesting without a clue of where that will lead. That’s just the beginning that’s that where the fight starts. If that’s as far as you can take it thank you for your participation but please stand aside and support the ones that are willing to fight. I am 100 % ANTIFA all the way! I am willing to fight for my brothers and sisters! … We do not want violence but we will not run from it either! … Today’s protesters and antifa are my brothers in arms.

President Trump responds

The shocking shooting drew a response from the White House. President Donald Trump stated his condolences in a tweet on Sunday, writing, “Rest In Peace Jay!”

This is a developing story.
