President Donald Trump is predicting a fierce fight in the Senate when impeachment leaves the House. Trump has publically encouraged the House to push impeachment through to the Senate so the real fight can begin.
Now, he’s stepping forward with a witness list for the Senate to call once the time comes, Breitbart reports.
“We will have Schiff, the Bidens, Pelosi and many more testify, and will reveal, for the first time, how corrupt our system really is,” Trump tweeted on Thursday. “I was elected to ‘Clean the Swamp,’ and that’s what I am doing!”
Democrats will testify
Democrats will likely impeach Trump in the House — and we’ve known that since the beginning. Once the impeachment articles are drafted, the proceedings will move from the House to a trial in the Senate.
Democrats have been able to keep impeachment alive through an ironfisted rule. Republicans were locked out of the process in the House, and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) directed witness testimonies.
However, that all ends when impeachment goes to trial in the Republican-controlled Senate. Republicans will have their turn to call any witnesses they desire and get to the real truth of the matter, according to Reuters.
Trump knows it’s going to be a serious fight, and he’s letting Democrats know that he is ready to step up to the plate. The only question is: outside the safety of the House, are the Democrats ready to fight the storm coming their way?
Democrats are damaging their candidates in key battleground states over impeachment. The people who will likely decide the election next year are rapidly turning against impeachment.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stands firm in her decision to charge ahead, despite growing opposition outside of Washington.
“The president’s actions have seriously violated the Constitution,” Pelosi said, according to Breitbart. “Our Democracy is at stake. The president leaves us no choice but to act.”
For his part, Trump has taunted House Democrats, tweeting:
They have no Impeachment case and are demeaning our Country. But nothing matters to them, they have gone crazy. Therefore I say, if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair trial in the Senate, and so that our country can get back to business.
Clinging to this impeachment could turn out to be political suicide for Democrats as polls reflect the turning tide of public opinion. Now, Democrats will have to prove their case in the Senate while knowing that the longer the process drags on, the worse it gets.
