President Trump outraged at Supreme Court’s decision to not hear Texas lawsuit

President Donald Trump expressed outrage after the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday rejected the Texas lawsuit that sought to overturn the election results in four key states.

“The Supreme Court really let us down. No Wisdom, No Courage!” the president tweeted in response.

Before the Supreme Court handed down its decision, the president had tweeted, “If the Supreme Court shows great Wisdom and Courage, the American People will win perhaps the most important case in history, and our Electoral Process will be respected again!”

What happened?

The Supreme Court rejected the case brought by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and joined by some 17 states and supported by over 120 House Republicans. The lawsuit alleged that changes that were made to election laws in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were unconstitutional, and asked the Supreme Court to stop the electors in those four states from certifying Democratic nominee Joe Biden as the winner of the presidential election.

The Supreme Court, however, would not hear Paxton’s lawsuit, ruling that the state of Texas lacked the legal standing necessary to have the case heard.

“The State of Texas’s motion for leave to file a bill of complaint is denied for lack of standing under Article III of the Constitution,” the decision reads. “Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections.”

All but two of the justices apparently agreed with this decision. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas said that they would hear the case, but added that they would not grant any relief in the matter.

“Fight on”

Notably, the Supreme Court did not reject the case on its merits, but on legal procedure. This means that the procedural issue can presumably be fixed and that the president and his team could, once again, try to have the case heard.

The president’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani told Newsmax that this is their next course of action.

Trump followed up with two more tweets on Friday regarding the court’s decision.

“So, you’re the President of the United States, and you just went through an election where you got more votes than any sitting President in history, by far – and purportedly lost,” Trump wrote. “You can’t get ‘standing’ before the Supreme Court, so you ‘intervene’ with wonderful states…..”

“….that, after careful study and consideration, think you got ‘screwed’, something which will hurt them also,” the president continued. “Many others likewise join the suit but, within a flash, it is thrown out and gone, without even looking at the many reasons it was brought. A Rigged Election, fight on!”
