Rudy Giuliani may soon be leaving his post as President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer — temporarily — to testify before Congress on what has become known as the “Ukraine scandal.”
According to the Daily Mail, Trump says he “would have no problem with” Giuliani testifying on the matter.
“Rudy’s a very straight shooter,” Trump told the Daily Mail. “Rudy wants to see the same thing as a lot of other people with respect to Ukraine.”
Trump went on to add that “Ukraine has had a tremendous corruption problem.”
“He got fired”
Part of that problem seems to stem from a shady deal that went on between the Ukraine government and former Vice President Joe Biden. As the story goes, Biden’s son, Hunter, was working for a Ukraine energy company known as Burisma when the organization came under scrutiny by the Ukrainian government.
The country’s prosecutor general, Viktor Shokin, was apparently investigating Burisma’s owner, but, according to The New York Times, then-Vice President Biden threatened “to withhold $1 billion in United States loan guarantees if Ukraine’s leaders did not dismiss the prosecutor.”
Biden later admitted to the move, bragging at a 2018 event: “I said: ‘We’re leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor’s not fired, you’re not getting the money.’”
Biden’s own words describe the outcome of his “talk” with Ukraine the best: “Well, son of a b***h, he got fired.”
The real story
Trump was roped into all of this last week when reports alleged that an anonymous whistleblower had accused Trump of orchestrating a quid pro quo with the Ukraine government in hopes of convincing them to launch an investigation into the Bidens.
According to the Daily Mail, Trump mentioned the Bidens in his July 25 call with Ukraine’s leaders.
But there remains no evidence that Trump did anything wrong during this call, and the president himself maintains that the “real story” has to do with “Sleepy Joe Biden.”
..Breaking News: The Ukrainian Government just said they weren’t pressured at all during the “nice” call. Sleepy Joe Biden, on the other hand, forced a tough prosecutor out from investigating his son’s company by threat of not giving big dollars to Ukraine. That’s the real story!
