We all know President Donald Trump loves to poke Democrats — and just two months ahead of the election, he’s made his biggest move yet.
According to a Saturday report from the Washington Examiner‘s Rob Crilly, Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court has enraged Democrats — and the president could not be happier.
“Furious with her already”
Democrats descended into panic mode just moments after news broke that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had died at age 87 due to what NPR described as “complications from metastatic cancer of the pancreas.”
President Trump, for his part, made clear quite soon that he would put up a nominee. And according to Crilly, while Trump had a shortlist of five well-qualified women, it was long known among White House insiders that he wanted Barrett for the job.
The fact that Democrats already hated her? It was just icing on the cake, according to one of Crilly’s sources.
“He loves that Democrats are furious with her already,” the source told Crilly.
Democrats, for their part, have done everything they can do tear down Barrett since the moment she was nominated. They had their talking points ready to go; this was an illegitimate and illegal move by Republicans, or so they wanted everyone to think.
“Nothing is off the table,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said, according to Fox News. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told an interviewer much the same, as Fox reported: “Well, we have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now.”
Some reports have suggested that Pelosi and House Democrats may even turn to a second attempt at impeachment as a means of stopping Barrett’s confirmation. But the president, for his part, is saying bring it on.
“Go ahead,” he said at a recent campaign rally, according to Fox. “I want them to do it.”
Indeed, even insiders who spoke with the Examiner‘s Crilly think Trump’s nomination of Barrett can only end in a win for him.
“These types of events that you cannot plan on can be pivotal,” former Trump campaign aide David Bossie told Crilly. “This nominee will absolutely excite an already excited base to turn out to vote to re-elect Donald Trump.”
