After New York City mayor Bill de Blasio appeared to blame the alarming rise in anti-Semitic attacks in New York on President Donald Trump, one prominent Democrat spoke up in Trump’s defense. “The acts of antisemitism that have happened in New York have nothing to do with the Right, have nothing to do with the president,” Dov Hikind said on Fox & Friends over the weekend.
This earned him a shoutout from the president, who tweeted, “Thank you to highly respected Jewish leader Dov Hikind for his wonderful statements about me this morning on @foxandfriends.”
Trump thanks Hikind for speaking truth
Hikind, a former Democratic New York state assemblyman and a prominent voice in the state’s Jewish community, tweeted back: “Thank you Mr. President for all you’ve done and continue to do to protect the Jewish people all the while making America stronger and more prosperous! God should increase your strength to rise above all the obstacles placed before you!”

On Sunday, Hikind appeared on Fox & Friends to discuss the violent machete attack in Rockland County on Saturday and other antisemitic incidents over the past year. Hikind noted that his fellow Democrats and the media are quick to speak out against “white supremacy” — but the recent attacks don’t fit that narrative.
“There is a cause for hate speech. When you have the Farrakahns of the world, when you have members of the United States Congress – Tliab, Omar, AOC – when you have them indulging in hate speech themselves – and to get away with it. You know there’s a new standard, one is for antisemitism and one is for other types of hate.”
“Unfortunately, people within my party — I’m a Democrat — within the Democratic Party, there’s a double standard,” Hikind continued. “The hate, the antisemitism that emanates from within the left — you don’t hear anything, you hear very little.”
“Anything that comes from the other side, it’s all — I mean, even the mayor of the city of New York has continued to call the hate coming from the right. All the hate in New York is coming from the left,” he added.
Time for action
Hikind was especially critical of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, both Democrats, who have said a lot but done very little in response to the wave of antisemitism sweeping the city and state.
“No one out there in the City of New York thinks de Blasio is really doing a good job dealing with antisemitism,” he told Fox & Friends.
On Twitter, Hikind said that he provided De Blasio with a list of suggested actions weeks ago, including more police, education, and meetings between the leadership of the Jewish and black communities.
Three weeks ago I sent @NYCMayor a concise plan to start combating antisemitism in NYC. The plan is shared in the imgs. Perhaps acting on it sooner could’ve prevented some of the recent attacks, but we will see what the mayor plans to implement today at 4pm. Talk less. Act more! pic.twitter.com/UnfBqQQ3g1

Democrats and the liberal media are trying to pin the blame for the rise in anti-Semitism on President Trump, despite his being arguably the most pro-Jewish, pro-Israel president in U.S. history.
But anti-semitism must be condemned no matter where it comes from — even if it’s inconvenient for the left.
