Democrats are charging full steam ahead on impeachment. You would think they would focus on winning the election, but apparently, that isn’t important to them.
President Donald Trump responded to Nancy Pelosi’s decision to cave to liberal hysteria by emphatically tweeting: “Such an important day at the United Nations, so much work and so much success, and the Democrats purposely had to ruin and demean it with more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage. So bad for our Country!”
The stage is set for the Democrats to launch a hysterical inquiry and for this process to drag on for months only to end with Democrats taking another loss. President Trump beat Robert Mueller; he will likely overcome these latest charges handily.
Trump was busy speaking to the U.N. yesterday when the news broke that Speaker Nancy Pelosi officially endorsed an impeachment inquiry.
“The president must be held accountable,” Pelosi told reporters, according to The Washington Examiner. “No one is above the law.”
That is all well and good, and it’s true that no one is above the law. The issue is that Democrats have no case. Trump may push boundaries regularly but he hasn’t come close to committing an impeachable offense.
Trump is right of course, that these political games are not helpful at all for the country. The impeachment proceedings are purely political and driven by an obsession with removing the president from office.
The impeachment inquiry is based on the whistleblower who claimed that Trump was pressuring Ukraine for opposition research on former Vice President Joe Biden.
It has since been reported by Fox News that the whistleblower had no first-hand knowledge of what happened, essentially affording his report the same weight as any other rumor that comes out of Washington. But all Democrats need is a rumor to waste our time with more attempts to get rid of Trump.
Americans aren’t sold on impeachment and are growing tired of the games. Democrats could be doing real damage to their candidates.
The other thing no one is talking about is the precedent this all sets. Whenever a president seemingly steps near a boundary there will be impeachment calls. Republicans might even do the same thing to a Democrat president that has been done to Trump.
This approach is not conducive to a healthy political discourse and only serves to divide the country along party lines even more.
