Trump: Russia investigation started ‘very high up’ in Obama administration
Now that the damaging and divisive special counsel investigation of the Trump campaign is finally over, it’s time to hold the instigators of the collusion allegations against Donald Trump accountable.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday, without naming names, said he thinks that the investigation of his campaign was initiated on orders from “very high up” in the Obama administration.
Trump points finger at Obama
President Trump stopped to briefly speak with reporters on Capitol Hill prior to a meeting with Republican lawmakers on Tuesday.
In response to a question about “how high up” those who initially launched the investigation were, Trump replied, “I think it went very high up. I think what happened is a disgrace. I don’t believe our country should allow this ever to happen again. This will never happen again. We cannot let it ever happen again.”
“It went very high up, and it started fairly low, but with instructions from the high up. This should never happen to a President again. We can’t allow that to take place,” Trump added.
In a follow-up, the president was asked, “Do you think it reached the West Wing of the Obama White House?”
Trump replied, “I don’t want to say that, but I think you know the answer.”
Trump also suggested investigating the investigators on Monday as he took questions from reporters after a meeting in the Oval Office with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Asked for his general thoughts on the handling of the Mueller investigation, Trump admitted he was glad it was over and wished it had been concluded sooner.
The president said, “There are a lot of people out there that have done some very, very evil things, very bad things. I would say treasonous things against our country.”
“And hopefully people that have done such harm to our country — we’ve gone through a period of really bad things happening — those people will certainly be looked at,” he continued, intimating that new investigations could be opened up into the actions of the Obama administration.
“I have been looking at them for a long time. And I’m saying, ‘Why haven’t they been looked at?’ They lied to Congress. Many of them — you know who they are — they’ve done so many evil things,” he added.
To those who have been looking closely at the origins in the FBI and Department of Justice of the Russian collusion hoax from the get-go, it is fairly obvious that such an operation could not have proceeded without the involvement of senior Obama administration officials.
