Trump endorsed former Navy SEAL Eli Crane to be GOP nominee in Arizona 2nd District

Former President Donald Trump has been issuing endorsements for select congressional candidates across the country, delivering his support for those who share his “America First” policy outlook and desire to Make America Great Again.

The latest to receive Trump’s backing is Eli Crane, a small business owner and former U.S. Navy SEAL who is running to be the Republican nominee in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, Breitbart reported.

Crane is one of several GOP candidates seeking the opportunity to take on incumbent Rep. Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ) in November and flip the district from blue to red.

Endorsed by Trump

In his endorsement of Crane, Trump said, “Eli Crane is running for Congress in the Great State of Arizona. Eli is a retired Navy SEAL and successful businessman who proudly served and loves our incredible, but seriously under siege, Country.”

“Eli will Fight for Election Integrity, Secure the Border, Support our Military and Vets, and Defend the Second Amendment,” the former president continued.

“With Eli as the Republican nominee, we will defeat Democrat Tom O’Halleran, a puppet of Nancy Pelosi, who is weak on borders, the Second Amendment, Election Integrity, and is a disgrace to the people of Arizona,” Trump added. “Eli Crane has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

In a statement to Breitbart, Crane said of the endorsement he had received, “President Trump is still the most respected and revered political leader in Arizona. He transformed the Republican party from a reactive group focused on managing the decline of America to a proactive, offensive-minded party focused on making America great again. That is why I am so honored to have his full confidence and endorsement for Congress in AZ 02.”

Crane leads competitors in “likely Republican” district

Crane is one of several candidates running in a crowded Republican primary field to win the nomination for Arizona’s 2nd District but appears to have a lead over his competitors, according to internal polling he shared with the public, especially when voters are informed of his background of business ownership and military service.

Overall, the pollsters found that Crane received 19 percent support among likely voters in the district, 7 percentage points more than his closest competitor.

However, when voters were told about his military service and success as a business owner, his support soared to 46 percent — 38 percentage points higher than the nearest rival.

If Crane goes on to win the nomination, he would also be likely to win the general election in November against Rep. O’Halleran, as the Cook Political Report rates AZ-02 as being “likely Republican,” despite its current Democratic incumbent.
