Former President Donald Trump has watched as his successor, President Joe Biden, recklessly abandons and reverses nearly all of his administration’s successful border security and immigration enforcement policies.
Apparently no longer content to just sit back and watch the border be destroyed, Trump revealed Tuesday that he has accepted an invitation to accompany Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on a visit to the southern border scheduled for June 30, The Daily Caller reported.
Trump: Border is “unmitigated disaster zone”
In an emailed statement Tuesday, Trump said that Biden inherited the “strongest, safest, and most secure border” in history but, “in mere weeks,” transformed it into the “single worst border crisis” in the nation’s history and an “unmitigated disaster zone.”
He compared the difference between his “detain-and-remove” policy to Biden’s resumption of “catch-and-release” for illegal entrants and decried the fact that “Biden and Harris have handed control of our border over to cartels, criminals, and coyotes.”
“Drug dealers, MS-13 gang members, human smugglers, sex traffickers, and the criminal elements of the world now have free reign” to overrun and terrorize local communities, not just on the border but all across the nation, the former president lamented.
“Crimes against our nation”
Trump also expressed his disappointment that agents for Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “have been illegally stopped from doing their jobs,” and called out Biden for turning the entire nation into “one giant sanctuary city” for criminals and illegal migrants.
He further highlighted the fact that neither Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris has visited the border yet to witness the “scenes of wreckage” their own policies have created and accused them both of committing a “grave and willful dereliction of duty.”
“My visit will hopefully shine a spotlight on these crimes against our Nation — and show the incredible people of ICE and Border Patrol that they have our unshakeable support,” Trump concluded.
State-owned funds for border wall construction
Meanwhile, Abbott revealed last week his intention to fill the void left by the Biden administration in terms of securing the southern border, in part through increased enforcement and security measures, including border wall construction to fill in gaps, Fox News reported.
Abbott announced Wednesday that he is prepared to make a $250 million down payment — to be paid for with funds from the state’s Department of Criminal Justice, according to local media — for border wall construction on state-owned land and privately donated parcels from Texans.
He also revealed that private and voluntary financial donations would help further fund the border wall construction effort after his down payment was used to hire a project manager and get the ball rolling.
“Make no mistake, the border crisis that we’re dealing with right now is a direct result of the open border policies that have been put in place by the Biden administration,” Abbott said. He later added, “In the federal government’s absence, Texas is stepping up to get the job done.”
