Democrats want the government’s hands in everything, but Republicans want businesses to be able to thrive free of burdensome red tape. With that in mind, the GOP is surely cheering stunning numbers just released by the White House.
As the Daily Mail reported, President Donald Trump held a press conference at the White House Thursday in which he celebrated putting an end to heavy regulations on businesses. In fact, Trump said that under his administration, “for every one new regulation added, nearly eight federal regulations have been terminated.”
A weight lifted
President Trump and his team came up with a very interesting way to illustrate how their actions have lifted the burden off American businesses and their employees. According to the Daily Mail, behind the dais at Trump’s presser were two pickup trucks: a blue one — ostensibly representing Democrats — and a red one — apparently meant to depict the GOP.
The blue pickup had three weights sitting in its bed; meanwhile, a crane adorned with a “Trump Administration” banner was used to lift the weights out of the red truck. All in all, the demonstration was an effective tool to show how Trump’s administration has lifted regulations on everything from water flow and lightbulbs.
Indeed, a fact sheet provided by the White House indicated that roughly $50 billion has already been saved the removal of regulations on Trump’s watch, and these new regulatory changes will increase American incomes by as much as $53 billion per year for the rest of the decade, it said.
That number translates to roughly $3,100 in yearly gains per household, according to the White House.
Trump himself touted these numbers at his Thursday presser.
“Our historic campaign”
“We’re here today to celebrate and expand our historic campaign to rescue American workers from job-killing regulations,” he said, according to a transcript provided by the White House.
Trump went on:
Before I came into office, American workers were smothered by a merciless avalanche of wasteful and expensive and intrusive federal regulation. These oppressive, burdensome mandates were a stealth tax on our people — slashing take-home pay, suppressing innovation, surging the cost of goods, and shipping millions of American jobs overseas — millions and millions and millions. It never ended.
Now, however, Trump has kept his promise to slash regulations and boost American businesses — and just in time, as nearly every industry can benefit from a boost following hard hits by the coronavirus pandemic.
“Under my administration, we have removed nearly 25,000 pages of job-destroying regulations — more than any other president by far in the history of our country, whether it was four years, eight years, or, in one case, more than eight years,” Trump said Thursday, according to the transcript. “Been an incredible achievement.”
As usual, President Trump is putting Americans — and American businesses — first. It’s a shame the same couldn’t always be said of his predecessors.
