Trump blasts McConnell for helping his ‘crazy’ wife to ‘get rich on China’

Last week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) took a shot at former President Donald Trump by calling into question the Senate candidates whom Trump has endorsed.

Now, according to Fox News, Trump has fired back, slamming McConnell as a “broken down political hack” who has helped his wife, Elaine Chao, to “get rich on China.”

McConnell’s shot

The situation began on Thursday with a report about a comment that McConnell made at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

“I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate,” McConnell reportedly said. “Senate races are just different, they’re statewide. Candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome.”

The minority leader added, “right now, we have a 50-50 Senate and a 50-50 country, but I think when all is said and done this fall, we’re likely to have an extremely close Senate. Either our side up slightly or their side up slightly.”

Many – seemingly including Trump himself – took McConnell’s statement as a shot at Trump, considering recent polling that suggests that many of the candidates that Trump has endorsed for the U.S. Senate are in very tight races.

Knowing Trump, it was only a matter of time before Trump hit back, and hard.

Trump returns fire

Trump responded to McConnell in a social media post.

“Why do Republican Senators allow a broken down hack politician, Mitch McConnell, to openly disparage hard-working Republican candidates for the United States Senate?” Trump asked.

“This is such an affront to honor and to leadership,” the former president continued. “He [McConnell] should spend more time (and money!) helping them get elected, and less time helping his crazy wife and family get rich on China!”

Well, McConnell certainly asked for it. Trump, by the way, isn’t just making stuff up here.

Breitbart News has reported:

Breitbart News Senior Contributor Peter Schweizer has warned of Mitch McConnell’s and Elaine Chao’s ties to China for several years. In his recent bestseller, Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win, Schweizer noted that the senator and his wife “enjoy some of the deepest and most abiding ties to Beijing-linked entities of anyone in Washington, D.C.”
