The Daily Beast reports that former President Donald Trump has begun to "sour" Kari Lake.
Per the outlet:
The failed Arizona governor candidate has stumbled repeatedly, both with MAGA diehards and with the one person who matters most in the decision: Trump himself. And, it’s with Trump aides that Lake has particularly lost her footing.
The significance of this is that many have suspected that Trump might select Lake to be his running mate in the 2024 presidential election. In fact, at a Conservative Political Action Conference Straw Poll that was taken earlier this year, Lake was easily the top pick to be Trump's vice president.
But, if the Daily Beast's report is true, then Trump may be in the market for a new running mate.
For its report, the Daily Beast cites multiple, unnamed Trump advisers. These advisors not only suggest that Trump has soured on Lake but that Trump has done so because Lake is a "spotlight hound."
The outlet reports:
Two Trump advisers who spoke to The Daily Beast said the heart of Trump’s frustration with Lake is that, in his eyes, she always wants attention. As one of the advisers put it, she’s a “spotlight hound.”
One of the Trump advisors went on to tell the outlet that Trump does not like Lake "running around saying she should be VP."
With such stories as this one - with anonymous sources - it is best to take them with a large grain of salt. Trump, himself, has not confirmed any of this. In fact, he has not commented on it. But, Lake has.
A spokesperson for Lake referred to the Daily Beast's reporting as "pathetic attempts from Team DeSantis" to divide Trump from his supporters. The spokesperson added, "MAGA world is more United [sic] than ever and ready to win big in 2024."
Even the Daily Beast, in its report, notes that Lake is by no means ruled out. In fact, there is every reason to believe that she might be one of the top candidates for the job.
But, if it is not Lake, there are several other possibilities.
These possibilities were recently highlighted by the Washington Examiner.
The Examiner threw such names into the mix as Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, (R-GA), U.S. Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Tim Scott (R-SC), and Josh Hawley (R-MS), U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and more.
It is still anyone's guess as to whom Trump might choose - that's assuming that Trump does indeed win the Republican Party's 2024 presidential nomination, which he is heavily favored in the polls to do.
