After months of reports alleging wrongdoing by Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic nominee Joe Biden announced this week that he is the subject of an ongoing federal probe into what he said were his “tax affairs.”
While the news has brought new scrutiny on the younger Biden and his influential family, conservatives have likewise expressed outrage over U.S. Attorney General William Barr’s apparent decision to keep news of the investigation under wraps ahead of Election Day.
“Even in confidence”
The news comes after President Donald Trump has already dropped several hints that there is some tension in his relationship with the attorney general.
Trump was clearly interested in getting to the bottom of the Hunter Biden scandal during the presidential campaign.
At one point, he even urged Barr to appoint a special counsel to look into the claims. Of course, Barr was reportedly aware that the federal investigation into the younger Biden was playing out behind the scenes and decided to keep it a secret.
A Wall Street Journal report indicated that Barr even withheld the probe from GOP lawmakers, which some on Capitol Hill were not pleased to learn.
One anonymous staffer told the Daily Caller that Republican legislators “are furious that Barr never told us the news, even in confidence.”
“Why didn’t Bill Barr reveal the truth”
In a tweet on Friday, the president took aim at Barr, criticizing the Justice Department, the FBI, and the media for failing to make public the existence of the investigation.
Why didn’t the Fake News Media, the FBI and the DOJ report the Biden matter BEFORE the Election. Oh well, it’s OK, we won the Election anyway – 75,000,000 VOTES!!!

The following day, he doubled down on his criticism of Barr, who has otherwise been known as an ally of the president on several important issues.
Trump’s tweet on Saturday stated: “Why didn’t Bill Barr reveal the truth to the public, before the Election, about Hunter Biden. Joe was lying on the debate stage that nothing was wrong, or going on – Press confirmed. Big disadvantage for Republicans at the polls!”
In response to one conservative pundit’s post on the subject, Trump described Barr as a “big disappointment.”
