President Donald Trump announced on Friday a stunning new plan to improve the lives of Black Americans.
The so-called “Platinum Plan” would be implemented during Trump’s second term, if he’s re-elected, and proposes a series of reforms designed to promote “opportunity,” “prosperity,” “security,” and “fairness” in the Black community, according to Fox News.
According to Fox, Trump’s campaign says the plan “will increase access to capital in Black communities by almost $500 billion, help to create 500,000 new Black-owned businesses, and help to create 3 million new jobs for the Black community.”
The president hopes to work toward this goal in a number of ways, including by cutting taxes “to stimulate hiring and investment” and by encouraging “offshoring and development of domestic manufacturing to increase supply chain business development and employment,” according to a campaign news release detailing the plan.
Trump has also pledged to examine “barriers to employment including fees, occupational licensing, arrest record inaccuracy, and expungement.”
In the area of education, the president has promised to “close failing schools” and to replace them with “full school choice and educational opportunity” as part of his Platinum Plan. In addition, Trump has vowed protect Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and to make Juneteenth a national holiday.
Finally, the plan states that Trump’s administration will “prosecute the KKK and ANTIFA as terrorist organizations and make lynching a national hate crime.”
Speaking Friday, Trump contrasted his plan with what has been offered by Democrats like presidential hopeful Joe Biden.
“For decades, Democrat politicians like Joe Biden have taken Black voters for granted,” Trump said, according to Fox.
He went on: “They made you big promises before every election—and then the moment they got to Washington, they abandoned you and sold you out. The Democrats will always take Black voters for granted until large numbers of Black Americans vote Republican.”
The president, on the other hand, promises to deliver. In doing so, President Trump has earned the praise some members of the Black community, including Vernon Jones, a Democratic member of Georgia’s House, who said that Trump’s commitment to the Black community is “unparalleled to any other president, Democrat or Republican, in the past 50 years,” according to a separate report from Fox.
Polls have already indicated that Trump is exceeding expectations in terms support among African American voters, as the Washington Examiner reports. With any luck, his latest proposal will keep the president on the right track.
