Canadian PM Trudeau rips trucker protesters with critique that is more applicable to himself

In opposition to COVID-19 vaccine mandates and other harsh pandemic restrictions, a peaceful trucker-led citizen protest has blocked off roads in and around the Canadian capital of Ottawa and vowed not to leave until the mandates and restrictions are lifted.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is unwilling to negotiate, though, and comments he made in Parliament this week proved just how out of touch he is with the protesters demanding their voices be heard, The Daily Caller reported.

Trudeau beclowns himself

During his remarks before Parliament on Monday, Trudeau leveled a series of accusations against the protesters that, in light of his handling of the pandemic over the past two years, were just as applicable to himself as to the truckers, if not even more so.

“Individuals are trying to blockade our economy, our democracy, and our fellow citizens’ daily lives,” the prime minister lamented to Canadian lawmakers. “It has to stop.”

Smearing all peaceful protesters with a broad and false brush

Canada’s CTV reported that Trudeau also said, “People of Ottawa don’t deserve to be harassed in their neighborhoods, don’t deserve to be confronted with the inherent violence of a swastika flying on a street corner, or a confederate flag, or the insults and jeers just because they’re wearing a mask. That’s not who Canadians are.”

What the prime minister was referring to were a few isolated incidents in the first few days of the protests nearly two weeks ago in which the offensive symbols had briefly appeared. Since then, Trudeau has repeatedly referenced them and attempted to more broadly link the entirety of the protest to rogue individuals not accepted by the group at large.

In light of the protesters’ complaints, Trudeau also asserted that “These pandemic restrictions are not forever,” though he failed to provide any sort of timeline on when restrictions would be lifted, and he has in the past ignored previous dates by which he had said still lingering restrictions would be eased.

“Doesn’t realize he’s talking about himself”

The Daily Caller noted that it was Trudeau’s remarks about the protesters “trying to blockade our economy, our democracy, and our fellow citizens’ daily lives” that sparked an outcry on social media, as many conservative users were quick to point out that the description fit his actions over the past two years quite well.

The Daily Wire’s senior editor Ashe Short tweeted, “He’s so blind he doesn’t realize he’s talking about himself.”

As for Trudeau’s assertion that “It has to stop,” Tennessee GOP congressional candidate Robby Starbuck retorted, “I couldn’t agree more.” He added, “Individuals like you and your elitist friends have blockaded our economies, stolen our democracy and our fellow citizens’ daily lives. It has to stop. So be a leader, end every COVID restriction and resign!”

Prime Minister Trudeau appears to be trying to play hardball with the protesting truckers, but those protesters have shown no indication that they plan to back down any time soon, so it will be interesting to see which side blinks first — the elitist politicians largely unaffected by their strict dictates or the working-class Canadians simply trying to live their lives in freedom.
