House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) revealed that the Treasury Department is “operating in bad faith" and obstructing the investigation into President Biden's shady family finances.
Comer sent a letter to the Treasury Department outlining his dissatisfaction with its deliberately slow response to his request for Suspicious Activity Reports. Republicans want to know more about the Biden family's business with foreign entities and it seems the Treasury Department is working to shield the Bidens from an investigation.
Comer stated in his letter, "Given the amount of time that has passed since our initial request and Treasury’s inability to provide a projected timeframe when the [Suspicious Activity Reports] will be produced, the Committee believes Treasury may be delaying its production to hinder our investigation and operating in bad faith."
It is no surprise to see the swamp working to protect President Biden and that protection suggests that Republicans may be pressing into something big.
It is no secret that the federal government is largely staffed and run by people who are sympathetic or outright supporters of the progressive agenda.
The same agencies that made life hell for former President Donald Trump are now doing everything in their power to protect President Biden from investigations into his shady business activities.
Isabella More, the deputy assistant secretary for oversight at the Treasury, claimed “[T]his entire process takes considerable time to complete."
However, Comer pointed out in his letter that, "[The] Treasury’s excused and delay tactics are unavailing given you have known about our requests since last year and previously produced relevant [Suspicious Activity Reports] to others."
Comer has called on More to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee on March 10.
It remains to be seen if she will comply with Comer's request, but based on how the Treasury Department has been acting, it seems unlikely More will appear before Congress without legal compulsion.
The investigation into President Biden's family business largely rotates around the President's son, Hunter Biden, and his brother, James Biden.
Both of them have conducted business in countries like China, Turkey, and Ukraine. Many of those activities were unethical at best and illegal at worst and Republicans want to know to what extent the President was involved.
President Biden has repeatedly denied being involved with his family's shady dealings but evidence recovered from Hunter Biden's laptop has proven Biden lied about his involvement.
The evidence from the laptop has made it undeniable that President Biden is, or was, involved in his family's business dealings. The only question is how hard Republicans will have to work to force the federal government to stop protecting the President against a legitimate inquiry.
