Top Democrat walks back support for Barack Obama: ‘He made me promises, which he broke’

Harvard University Law Professor Alan Dershowitz is done with former President Barack Obama.

According to the high-profile attorney and legal pundit, Dershowitz broke his ties with Obama because the former president lied to him about his promise to stand by Israel.

“He made me promises, which he broke, and I broke my relationship with President Obama,” Dershowitz said, according to One America News Network (OANN).

Breaking a Promise

Dershowitz is a lifelong Democrat and was a self-admitted Obama supporter during the 2008 election season. This was in part because he and Obama had discussed at length that Obama would stand by Israel, Dershowitz said in a recent interview.

However, according to Dershowitz, in one of Obama’s last acts as president, he turned on Israel, stabbing both Dershowitz — and the Jewish state — in the back on his way out the door.

That decision was to sit on the sidelines while the U.N. condemned Israel for occupying the Western Wall, a place considered to be the holiest place in all of Judaism.

And after Obama turned his back on Israel, Dershowitz turned his back on Obama.

The Great Divide

The actions of Obama continue to linger in the Democratic Party. Never before have we seen such a level of disrespect toward one of our major allies, but several members of the so-called “Squad” have backed organizations and legislation that openly oppose Israel.

The most recent example is a publicity stunt by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who attempted to visit Israel.

The two were banned after Israel saw their agenda, which the country believed amounted to nothing more than plans to rail against Israel and promote Palestine.

Obama’s actions were clearly infectious, and have taken hold in the younger generation of Democrats. It is for that very reason that people like Dershowitz have walked to the middle of the aisle, and for the first time ever, will consider voting for Republicans come Election Day 2020.
