Republican representative calls for Tlaib’s removal from House committees over anti-Semitic remarks

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) is calling on House leadership to remove progressive Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) from her committee assignments, the Daily Wire reports

Reschenthaler made the demand because of Tlaib’s repeated anti-Semitic actions and statements.

“Disturbing pattern”

In a statement published by Breitbart on Friday, Reschenthaler called for Tlaib’s removal from all congressional committees.

“This week, Democrat Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib participated in a forum led by one of the nation’s most anti-Israel advocacy groups that featured other participants with reported connections to Hamas, terrorism financiers, and the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement,” he wrote, as the Daily Wire reported.

He continued: “Rep. Tlaib’s participation in this conference, coupled with her recently deleted retweet of a slogan calling for the elimination of Israel, are just the latest examples of a deeply disturbing pattern of anti-Semitism that has been on display since she was elected.

“It is past time we show the American people that there is no place in Congress, or anywhere, for this shameful intolerance,” Reschenthaler concluded in his statement to Breitbart. “I call on my colleagues across the aisle to join me in calling for Rep. Tlaib to immediately lose her committee assignments.”

Anti-Israel tweet

Over Thanksgiving weekend, Tlaib participated in the annual conference of American Muslims for Palestine. As Reschenthaler stated, it is a group known for its anti-Israel stance and its ties with terrorist organizations. Tlaib was joined at the event by Reps. Ilham Omar (D-MN) and Betty McCollum (D-MN).

Tlaib also recently retweeted a message that read, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

As Dr. Mark Goldfeder, the director of the National Jewish Advocacy Center, pointed out, “That phrase is a well-known Hamas jihadist call to annihilate the state of Israel and murder its Jewish inhabitants. It is an open request by Hamas and other terrorist groups for violence against innocent people and against one of America’s closest allies, Israel.” Tlaib has since deleted her retweet.

Pelosi’s hypocrisy

In his statement, Reschenthaler called out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for refusing to condemn Tlaib’s “heinous behavior.”

He said that House Republicans, unlike Pelosi and the Democrats, have “demonstrated we have zero tolerance for hateful speech,” according to Breitbart. Reschenthaler also pointed out that “[w]hen outgoing Republican Congressman Steve King made inexcusable racist remarks, not only did he receive widespread condemnation from both sides of the aisle, but Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy rightfully stripped him of his committee assignments.”

In contrast, Reschenthaler accused Pelosi of “emboldening” Tlaib and others “to continue spreading and escalating this dangerous, hateful bigotry” by the speaker’s failure to take any action.
